 Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design

Constable Marten Wind, Constable, Durham Regional Police Services

Marten Wind is a Police Constable with the Durham Regional Police Service. He has specialized training in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (Level II accreditation) and is the President of CPTED Ontario. His training is geared toward designing buildings and neighbourhoods to prevent criminal activity. Safety audits are performed on existing locations and he partners with Block Parents, Neighbourhood Watch, City Planning Departments and Seniors Groups. He has extensive knowledge in the area of personal safety, home security, child safety and fraud identity theft. Marten is an integral part of our community and contributes his time to the Annual Food and Toy Drive.

Dr. Hannah Scott, AAssociate Professor, Faculty of Criminology,
Justice and Policy Studies University of Ontario Institute of Technology

Dr. Hannah Scott is an associate professor in the Faculty of Criminology, Justice, and Policy Studies. Her current interests are in the areas of victimology, gender issues, homicide, criminological theory and statistics. She also has a keen interest in CPTED and Organized Crime and has been trained by Dr. Timothy Crowe, author of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design: Applications of Architectural Design and Space Management Concepts (2nd Edition – 2000, National Crime Prevention Institute). She has worked on several grants and projects using CPTED, including safety audits for the Memphis Housing Authority in Memphis Tennessee under the Strategic Approaches to Community Safety Initiative (SACSI) federal initiative as part of a grant from the National Institute of Justice in the United States.
